Acupuncture
Acupuncture is one aspect of the healthcare system known as East Asian Medicine. This system is one of the oldest healthcare systems in the world and has been practiced for thousands of years. Acupuncture involves the insertion of thin, almost hair-like needles into specific points on the body. While the insertion is generally painless, some people may feel various sensations once the needles are in the body, such as pressure, warmth, buzzing, or aching. These sensations indicate that beneficial change is occurring in the body.
To date, many scientific studies have demonstrated the benefits of acupuncture, including regulation of the nervous system, increased nitric oxide levels in the body (which can improve blood flow and help alleviate pain), and stimulation of the immune system.Herbal Medicine
Herbal Medicine is another aspect of East Asian Medicine. Herbal Medicine is an extremely powerful tool available to us. It involves using herbal remedies selected with specificity for an individual’s presentation to help return the body to proper functioning.
The East Asian approach to herbal medicine often involves combining several herbs into one formula. The idea is that single herbs, while beneficial, may tip the body too far in one direction. Formulas allow for a more balanced approach to treatment.CranioSacral Therapy
CrainoSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on modality birthed from Osteopathic Medicine. Our bodies are full of natural rhythms, such as our hearts beating and our breathing. Another rhythm results from the mechanism of cerebrospinal fluid being pumped through the brain and spinal cord. This rhythm can be felt by trained practitioners. Through this gentle and informed touch, we are able to identify where the body may require additional support in order to self-correct. The goal of CST is to support the free flow of fluids in the craniosacral system, allowing the system to work optimally and supporting whole-body health.
